Reasoning, Decision Making, and Problem Solving
A unique element of the Ideal Schools academic program is course work on reasoning, decision making and problem solving. Over the past decade, cognitive science has broadened our understanding of how the brain processes information, and how people think and make decisions about complex problems. Judgment, reasoning, decision making, critical thinking, problem solving, metacognition, strategic learning, and many other related topics fall into the larger science of human cognition, which includes cognitive and social psychology.

Course work in this area will cover judgment heuristics and biases, problem solving strategies and algorithms, economic models of decision making behavior (subjective expected utility maximization) and related topics.
