Information for Prospective Students

If you are moving from a large school environment into a small school environment, or if you have a network of friends with whom you want to remain in contact at your former school, the move into our small high school may seem daunting. This is why we invest a great deal of effort into making every student's experience educational and enjoyable. Ultimately, you will likely find that your concerns fail to materialize.

Here are a few things for you to consider as you think about Ideal Schools as your high school:
  • You are not simply a cog in the machine, you are part of a small community of learners focused on your well-being and success
  • While the school is small, the social life is rich, because of all the trips and activities students participate in as a group
  • During breaks in the day and daily off-campus lunch trips (e.g., Wegmans, Chipotle, Potbelly, Pei Wei), and during twice-weekly Sports trips (indoor and outdoor physical activity, including touch football, soccer, and ice skating), there is ample opportunity to get to know your fellow students
  • There are similar opportunities during our social activities (e.g., movies on and off-campus, holiday and other school parties, ski trips)
  • The academic work is designed to be meaningful and, most importantly, educational, so that you learn more and think more precisely than you would in another high school
  • The academic work is supplemented by a rich field studies program, where we leave school 2 to 4 times each month to learn more about what you are studying in school
  • You have a voice in important decisions concerning academic content, electives, extracurriculars, and athletic or social activities; for example, students vote on reading material, the design of the daily schedule, and our twice-weekly athletic activities
  • Our students stay in touch with friends from other schools, so there need not be a huge change in your social contacts outside of school
  • The school space is designed to be comfortable and pleasant, so that the vibe is enriching, not institutional
If you have any questions, or if you would like to spend a day at our school to see all of the above in person, please have your parent(s) contact us to schedule a visit. For more information, email info@idealschools.org.
