Your Future: Find Your Voice
| The first step towards great achievement is to find your voice, and to use it to influence the world around you. We are open to your ideas, interests and aspirations and waiting for you to share them.
We want you to
DO GREAT THINGS long after you leave high school, so we have created a
school where you can think about, research, and act upon your short- and
long-term academic and professional goals--before you pick a college, a
college major, or a professional path.
You must be
able to think carefully and critically about your short- and long-term
goals, and we give you an opportunity to do so. As part of this process,
we seek student input on courses, field studies, physical education,
social climate and academic excellence. This school was created for you,
and we want your help in making it your school.
Since this is a
small and innovative high school, if a
group of students or teachers wants to add a new course to the
curriculum, it is possible to do so. We want to teach you about the world,
and anything students and teachers consider important and
interesting about the world can be added to the curriculum, so long as
it meets our academic standards and is acceptable to the learning
community.
Looking ahead,
all students complete a yearlong Senior Project. This is an opportunity
for students to work in a sustained and structured way on a subject they
consider important and compelling. Work on this project can inform
college and college major selection, and have long-term consequences on
professional goals. Our objective with Senior Project is to give
students an opportunity to look 20 or 40 years into the future and to
take the first steps towards achieving their long-term aspirations.
