Parents are always giving. It's time they received something in return: knowledge.
When parents of our current students sit in on class discussions, they often leave more excited and informed than their children, which inspired an idea: The best way to show parents what we can do for their children is for parents to experience our unique approach to education for themselves. Thus, the idea for parents' classes was born.
Beginning as early as February 2010, Ideal Schools will offer one or more classes one weekday evening from 6:30-9 p.m. for 6 to 8 weeks. The courses will cost $250 including the book ($100 for parents of Fairfax and Loudoun middle school and high school students). The humanities courses will focus on reading one or two books over the course of 6-8 weeks: (i) Jared Diamond's Guns, Germs, and Steel, (ii) William Manchester's The Last Lion: Winston Spencer Churchill, Visions of Glory, (iii) Homer's Iliad, (iv) Levitt and Dubner's Freakonomics and Superfreakonomics, (v) Plato's Republic, and (v) Doris Kearns Goodwin's Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, among other titles. We may add science and technology courses if there is parent interest.
If you are interested in joining a class, please email info@idealschools.org with your name, email address, your preferred day(s) of the week for class, and whether you are a parent of a Fairfax or Loudoun middle or high school student.
